Eurostars support programme dedicated to small and medium sized enterprises now open

The Eurostars programme is a European Union funded innovation support programme coordinated by the EUREKA Secretariat in Brussels. The programme is dedicated to supporting research and development (R&D) performing small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in 30 participant countries.

An SME is considered to be R&D performing when it invests 10% or more of its full-time equivalent or annual turnover in research and development activities

A Eurostars project can focus on which ever technology as long as it is aimed at developing a new product, service or a process. In order to be considered eligible, the project must involve at least 2 R&D performing actors from 2 different Eurostars participating countries. In addition, the main participant must be a research-performing SME.

A Eurostars project should be market-driven – it must have a maximum duration of three years and within two years of project completion, the product of the research should be ready for launch onto the market. The exception to this rule applies to biomedical or medical projects, where clinical trials must be started within two years of project completion.

Applications for Eurostars funding must be submitted electronically to the EUREKA Secretariat. The applications are evaluated by an independent international group of experts. The approved projects are funded by the national funding bodies of each participating country.

During the last three years a number of successful Eurostars applications have been submitted with the help of Invent Baltics consultants in various technological fields by enterprises like Massi Miliano Ltd, HansaBioMed Ltd, Mendeley Ltd, Mikromasch Eesti Ltd and others.

The application submission deadline is Thursday 30 September 2010.
