UK start-up Mendeley receives funding from the Eurostars programme to create a smart environment for managing academic articles

Creator of the semantics driven innovative system for discovering, managing and sharing scholarly articles, Mendeley Ltd, collects with the help of Invent Baltics approximately 467 000 Euros from the European R&D funds.

Project MAKIN’ IT unites three organisations from three different European Union member countries and is coordinated by UK technology development company Mendeley Ltd. Mendeley is specialized in developing semantics driven systems, which would facilitate its users to discover and manage scientific publications according to their profile of interests.

The global academic software market can be estimated at around US$ 7.3 billion with an average annual growth of 15%. Mendeley’s product development is targeted to the growing semantic discovery systems market and executed in cooperation with Estonian Competence Centre of Electronics-, Info- and Communication Technologies (ELIKO) and Austria’s Competence Centre for Knowledge Management (Know-Center)

Invent Baltics consulted Mendeley in formulating the project ideas, searching for international partners and preparing the application form. The overall budget of the project is 857 000 Euros out of which 467 000 Euros will be financed by public funding agencies.
