Invent Baltics team supported Alekon Cargo OÜ, GasEK Oy and MY Capital OÜ in preparing successful SME Instrument Phase 1 project proposals to the European Commission Horizon 2020 research and innovation funding programme. During the Phase 1 projects the firms will work on carrying out feasibility assessments including market research, freedom-to-operate analyses and technological feasibility studies. As an outcome of Phase 1 projects, the firms will create detailed business plans and commercialization strategies for their novel technologies.

Estonian logistics hub Alekon Cargo OÜ is developing an automatic and high accuracy machine vision based scanner system for handling and counting neo-bulk cargo. The project proposal was successful under the Horizon 2020 “Smart, green and integrated transport” work programme. MY Capital OÜ, an Estonian clean-tech firm, is developing a fully automatic flue gas filtration system. The technology’s novelty lies in a specific substance patented by MY Capital scientists that diminishes the costs of waste utilisation for both industrial and private customers. MY Capital’s project is funded under the “Climate action, environment, resource efficiency and raw materials” work programme. GasEK Oy is a Finnish renewable energy pioneer that is developing novel wood chip-fuelled system for combined heat and power plants, based on GasEK’s unique patented wood gasification technology. GasEK’s project is funded under the “Secure, clean and efficient energy" work programme.

The SME Instrument is a funding instrument under the Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation programme that supports innovative Small and Medium-sized Enterprises in Europe and associated countries. The instrument aims to fill the gaps in funding for research and innovation at early stages and thereby accelerate the exploitation of novel solutions to address key societal challenges or enabling technologies. The SME Instrument Phase 1 funding supports SMEs to cover the funding for initial feasibility assessment and business modeling for the novelty. Phase 2 funding is targeted to SMEs with particular focus on product development, demonstration activities and market replication.

The next cut-off dates for Phase 1 and Phase 2 project proposals are June 17 and September 17, 2015. Invent Baltics OÜ provides initial consultancy regarding funding opportunities within the Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation program free of charge.
